What is VDI 3400 Texture?

What is VDI 3400 texture? VDI 3400 texture refers to the texture standard set by Verein Deutscher Ingenieure (VDI), the Society of German Engineers. It is mainly processed by Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) when mold machining but could also be done by the traditional texturing method.

The complete VDI 3400 texture covers 12 values:

  • VDI 12, VDI 15, VDI 18, VDI 21, VDI 24, VDI 27.
  • VDI 30, VDI 33, VDI 36, VDI 39, VDI 42, VD I45.

Although the VDI 3400 texture standard was set by the society of German Engineers, it is nowadays widely used worldwide among tool makers, including North America, Europe, and Asia.
